Description

 

The Multnomah Inverness School is an accredited program that supports education in Multnomah County jails. Services provided include academic credit, special education services, English language learners services, GED support and transition services.

 

Department: Student Services

Reports to: Building Administrator

Classification/Range: Licensed Represented

Days/Hours: 190 days/8 hours per day

 

NATURE & SCOPE:

 

This position is subject to Board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable State and Federal statutes.  This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

This position is located inside of Multnomah County Jails. Additional background checks are required. 

Teachers will work with youth ages 18-21. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.  Cooperate with other staff members to establish and maintain program goals and requirements.

 

2.  Develop and implement lesson plans and learning objectives to ensure educational and behavioral progress.

 

3.  Utilize relevant information to assess and identify students’ educational, psychological, physical and social needs.

 

4.  Sequence learning activities and modify instruction based on individual student needs.

 

5.  Provide applied learning activities that are active, student directed, project based and integrated.

 

6.  Evaluate students’ educational progress utilizing a variety of assessment tools and methodology (i.e. student portfolios, student demonstrations, criterion referenced and standardized tests).

 

7.  Identify and utilize resources within the school and community to meet students’ educational needs.

 

8.  Communicate and confer with support services and community personnel to address individual student needs.

 

9.  Implement systems and strategies to facilitate student learning at community sites, which may involve writing learning objectives and supervising student progress.

 

10.  Communicate, cooperate and demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, supervisors, community members and others.

 

11.  Maintain records, meet timelines.

 

12.  Follow policies of the District, and procedures of the Alternative Schools Department.

 

13.  Perform other related duties, as assigned by the Principal or which are indicated, to assure the physical and emotional well being of students.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to establish and implement behavior management guidelines for students consistent with program needs.
  • Knowledge of large group, small group, and individual instruction; and cooperative learning and peer tutoring strategies.
  • Ability to integrate workplace readiness skills into content area instruction.
  • Knowledge of career related opportunities for students, and experience based education.
  • Knowledge of Oregon Benchmarks, Common Curriculum Goals, and the Oregon Educational Act for the 21St Century.
  • Ability to develop curriculum aligned with skills/content standards.
  • Knowledge of child development.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Current Oregon Teaching License, workforce experience outside of education, experience or training in working with a diverse student population. 

 

Special Education endorsement and/or Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Salary placement is based on education level and years of relevant teaching experience.
