REPORTS TO:                Coordinator and/or Supervisor, Student Services

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

To provide direct instruction, support, and material development in students' sensory and fine motor needs, as well as functional skills development; to identify educationally-relevant accommodations and adaptations and/or to develop and implement instructional or therapeutic interventions as indicated, in collaboration with the supervising Occupational Therapist.

Note: This posting is for the COTA position at the Creeks schools (multiple site placement). The Creeks provide a positive and safe learning community that fosters academic and vocational growth for student support in areas of social-emotional, behavior, communication, and sensory needs. 

  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide direct instruction, following documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

2. Perform administrative record keeping, including documentation of services (may include Medicaid documentation) to be reviewed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

3. Develop materials as requested by, and in collaboration with, the supervising  Occupational Therapist.

4. Assist the Occupational Therapist in collecting and tallying data without interpretation.

5. Document student progress - without interpretation of findings - toward meeting established objectives as stated in the IEP/IFSP, and report this information to the supervising Occupational Therapist.

6. Assist with clerical duties as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

7. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.

8. Participate with Occupational therapists in research projects, in-service training, and public relations programs.

9. Conduct screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

10. Schedule activities and prepare charts, records, graphs, or other data displays.

11. Act as a second-language interpreter during an assessment, if applicable.

12. Maintain the confidentiality of information about students and their families.

13. Maintain a satisfactory job attendance record.

14. Use district-mandated and approved personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury to self, students, and other staff.

15. Attend required meetings.

16. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Coordinator/Supervisor or which are indicated to assure students' physical and emotional well-being.

17. Adhere to policies of the district and procedures of the department and/or school site.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.   Attend workshops, staff development classes, and other meetings.

2. Act as a resource person in the area of occupational therapy services.

3. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervising Occupational Therapist or supervisor.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

COTA credential meeting current OTLB guidelines:

1. Successful completion of the academic requirements of an educational program for occupational therapy assistants recognized by the Occupational Therapy Licensing Board.

2. Pass an examination approved by the board to determine the applicant's fitness for practice as an occupational therapy assistant.

3. Have successfully completed at least two months of supervised fieldwork that complies with rules adopted by OTLB.

4. Maintain a current OTA license in good standing in Oregon.
