MESD School Health Services, is a critical link between health and education. Over 135 MESD employees work in the Department of School Health Services. We are committed to ensuring the safety of students by providing the highest standard of nursing care in the school and community setting so that every student has the opportunity to achieve their educational potential. We are nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, outreach workers, screening and prevention specialists  who accomplish this by providing and coordinating specialized health services that support the educational experience for students throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. We are committed to employee and community wellness, advocacy on behalf of students and their families, collaboration with community health systems and school based health centers, research and development to improve population health in schools, and using evidenced-based practice in the delivery of care. We support the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model that combines and builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach by responding to the call for greater alignment, integration, and collaboration between education and health to improve each child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The School Health Assistant provides health care services to students and school communities served by the Multnomah Education Service District.

 

NATURE & SCOPE:

This position is subject to board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable state and federal statutes.  This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed primarily on a school campus, including indoors within an office, or occasionally outdoors for urgent care needs. Involves sitting, walking and occasional lifting, pushing, pulling up to 40 pounds.  May work with high stress students, families, or personnel situations.
